ALICE JEAN NICHOLS
2009
On June 18, 2009, Ms. Nichols was selected to receive the Louisiana Association of Child Welfare and Attendance Personnel's highest award, the Wilfred Broussard Award (Person of the Year)for outstanding service to the children of her district and the state Association of Child Welfare and Attendance Personnel. The award was presented at the Annual Summer LACWAP Conference at Houma, Louisiana.
Alice is a native of Lake Providence, Louisiana and is currently employed by the East Carroll Parish School Board as the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance. She was a classroom teacher for seventeen years before her promotion to principal of Northside Elementary in 1993. In 1996, Alice was promoted to Secondary Supervisor for the school district. After serving in that position for three years, she was promoted to Child Welfare Supervisor.
Alice hold professional credentials of a Bachelor�s and Master's Degrees in Elementary Education from Grambling State University. A specialist degree in Administration and Supervision was earned from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Louisiana in 1985. Additional certifications include: Reading Specialist,Supervisor of Student Teaching, Media Center Supervisor, Supervisor of Instruction, Elementary Principal, Child Welfare Supervisor, and Superintendent of Schools.
In 1999, Alice joined the LACWAP and IATDP, ultimately becoming a Board of Directors member for both organizations. During the 2004-2005 school year, she served as state president of the Louisiana Association of Child Welfare and Attendance Personnel. That same year, she served as a hostess at the 94th Annual IATDP Conference at New Orleans, Louisiana. In October 2008, Alice served as the coordinator and hostess for the association's prestigious Annual IATDP Awards Luncheon at Las Vegas. Currently, she is second vice-president of the International Association for Truancy and Dropout Prevention (IATDP).
Ms. Nichols is an avid reader, and enjoys inspirational books. Dedication to her church, community, and education is reflected in service on numerous boards and committees, some
